Susan Eva Porter, Ph.D., LCSW, has spent her career working with children and adolescents, mostly in schools. She's often asked if she herself is a parent. "Not a chance!" she responds. "Parenting is the hardest job in the world!" That said, Porter thinks of her work in schools as a form of parenting, and explains that she parents from 9 to 5 while actual parents are on the job from 5 to 9.
Porter's major interest is how to create and promote healthy school environments, and to this end she has written about stress in schools, the boundaries between teacher and student, and most recently about bullying.
After working in schools for years as a teacher and mental health clinician, Porter is now a Dean of Students at a high school in Marin County, CA.
