Jeff Counts is a veteran Michigan journalist and outdoorsman, who spent a year on the road in his old Jeep researching and taking photographs for Michigan: An Explorer's Guide, published by The Countryman Press. Michigan is the largest state east of the Mississippi and has tremendous public access to lakes, rivers, the Great Lakes and the woods. The guide has a heavy focus on outdoor recreation and the Upper Peninsula. "The U.P. is my favorite region in the country. You can find camping spots where you can spend days without seeing another person." Almost all the land is open to the public. I'm now at work on a paddling guide to Michigan waters. I have developed a Power Point presentation with hundreds of color phots and am available to speak at events.
