Mekael Shane is an American Mountaineer, Poet and Motivational Speaker, who was born on October 17th, 1970 in the great midwestern city of Indianapolis, Indiana, where he attended high school at the prestigious Park Tudor School. After graduating from Park Tudor, Mekael went on to pursue a degree in Political Science at what he refers to as "the greatest HBCU in the country," Central State University, located in Xenia, Ohio.
Having committed himself to a life of service, Mekael is a proud citizen Soldier, having served as an NCO in the U.S. ARMY, as well as having served the U.S. government in different capacities abroad. Further, upon learning of his mother's cancer diagnosis in 2005, Mekael jumped into action and joined the global fight against cancer, in initiatives focused on both cancer research and cancer survivorship, both at home in the U.S., and in his home away from, Switzerland.
Thematically, Mekael's poetry often expresses his perspectives on topics that include politics, love, race-relations, war and the journey of the spirit. The author of multiple collections, Mekael's poetry has also appeared in various anthologies and periodicals, which have helped him to garner various poetry award nominations.
