My Memoir Beside Myself is about growing up on our family cotton farm in Frost, Texas. Frost is just a spot in the road seventy miles south of Dallas where I spent my childhood years idolizing my Daddy and avoiding becoming the Southern Belle my poor Mama longed for. Humor with conflict.
I have been an artist my adult life working in every medium imaginable but my heart was that of a sculptor. Due to health and aging I had to retire from my large heavy assemblage sculptor which depicted my own imaginary version of steam machines of the late eighteen hundreds. After the sculpting era of my life, I moved from Parker Colorado back to the Dallas area where I began working as a stage hand in the performing arts theatre in Highland Park along with becoming a somewhat successful set designer.
In my sixties writing presented itself to me as a latent new means of creative expression. Until writing this first book Beside Myself caught me by surprise I had considered writing as my best outlet for what I referred to as "throwing up on paper" to ease the never-ending build-up of frustrating creative energy. Creativity cannot be retired. I discovered a love for writing to be an emotional wonderful new expression for creativity. I love writing, taking risks and shooting from the hip to make a meaningful picture from words to share with readers. I toss in pen and ink drawings with my writing to express a full view.
I live in St. Petersburg, Florida now with my partner, author Bett Norris who generously serves as my editor. Visit my web site at www.sandyjmoore.wordpress.com.
