Features six novels depicting life in twentieth-century Hawaii revealing a society, richly blessed with the "aloha spirit" of romance, human drama, and the importance of ohana (family) set in the beautiful paradise of the Hawaiian Islands. Her writings reflect a time in Hawaii, reminiscent of a bygone era, interwoven with romantic ventures and a glimpse at the uniqueness of Hawaiians and a distinctive culture from her perspective.
The novels include two series: Lanikai and its sequel Lanikai Flowers; and Kahala Sun and its continuation in Children of Kahala Sun. Her fifth book, The Waimea Gathering was released in April 2010. Published in November of 2013, The Sons of Kamuela is a story about four brothers who meet for the first time at the reading of their father's will. Set in the hills of Pupukea and the beaches of the North Shore of Oahu, it reflects an inside glimpse of a culture within a culture.
Under her present name, Mahealani Harris, she co-wrote two books, "Pa`u Riders on Parade" with Barry Napoleon and "A Tribute to Fred Trotter" with Valerie Trotter, published in August 2013, also available on Amazon.
Mahealani returned to Hawaii after many years of living in Santa Barbara, California. Born in Kalihi, raised in Lanikai, Oahu and attended Kamehameha Schools, she incorporated her experiences at Kamehameha in her novel, Lanikai and more specifically in The Waimea Gathering which relates the lives of six girls from different valleys in Hawaii who bond together at Senior Cottage and reunite forty five years later.
