Joseph W. Daniels. Jr
Dr. Joseph W. Daniels, Jr. is the Lead Pastor of the Emory Fellowship (a United Methodist Congregation) in Washington, D.C. During his leadership at Emory, the congregation has grown from an average of 55 people in weekly worship attendance to over 400 every Sunday. The church has been awarded the "Kim Jefferson Northeast Jurisdictional Award" for effective urban ministry representing the United Methodist Church. Additionally, it has been selected as one of the 25 Congregational Resource Centers in the Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century initiative of the United Methodist Church.
Pastor Daniels is very active in community affairs, serving as one of the founders and co-chairs of the Washington Interfaith Network (WIN) and of the non-profit founded under his leadership, The Emory Beacon of Light, Inc. He has provided leadership in the past to the Council of Churches of Greater Washington as well as the Fannie Mae Foundation. Pastor Daniels is also a Rockefeller Foundation Next Generation Leadership fellow, and very active with preaching, teaching, writing and consulting on the topics surrounding the being and doing of REAL Church, vision and call, leadership development, diversity training, and congregational, community and economic development. His work has taken him overseas on numerous occasions, serving congregations and communities in Africa, Bermuda and the West Indies. He has been happily married to his wife, Madelyn, for 24 years. God has blessed them with two children, Joia and Joey, as vital anchors for their ministry together.
