C. Denise Johnson

Denise Johnson is professor and director of Literacy Leadership at the College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA. She has worked as an elementary classroom teacher, a middle school reading specialist, a Reading Recovery teacher and now teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in reading and language arts methods and children's literature. For the last 15 years, she has conducted research on literacy, children's literature, and the integration of technology into literacy instruction. She is Nationally Board Certified and was recently named the University Professor of Teaching Excellence by the College of William & Mary, awarded the Instructional Leadership Award by the Virginia Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, and awarded the John Chorlton Manning Public Service Award by the International Reading Association.
