Reading and writing have intermingled, with one facilitating the other throughout her life as an author, a researcher, a speaker and writing mentor. A love of language, an inherent need to use exactly the right word to enlighten and enliven a keynote, column or book drives Settles to create.
Her career spans writing feature articles for major daily newspapers, radio shows, columns in print and online, blogging, training, developing curricula focused on human development, and of course--the culture of technology. KENTUCKY IN THE WAR OF 1812: THE GOVERNOR, THE FARMERS AND THE PIG (2023) and PROHIBITION IN BARDSTOWN, KY: BOURBON, BOOTLEGGING AND SALOONS (2016) with co-author Dixie Hibbs are from History Press. Her children's picture book LEIRA CLARA'S FLOWERS and accompanying LEIRA CLARA'S GARDEN JOURNAL (2022) were published by Shadelandhouse Modern Press. The out-of-print UNDERSTANDING iKIDS and accompanying workbook were published by Pelican Publishing.
Doris is currently editing her first complete fiction novel, and has published poetry and prose in a variety of anthologies and publications.
