Steven Harms

My biography follows, but first a word about credit and collections: it is my life and has been so for 38 years, from bill collector to collection attorney, always concerned with improving credit policies to minimize credit and collection problems, while constantly striving to learn more tips and tactics to collect accounts. Whatever I learn, I pass along to you in my blog, Steve Harms - Credit and Collections (free, no membership, just honest, practical discussions) and my books including Credit and Collections Kit for Dummies.

I am a partner in the law firm of Muller, Muller, Richmond, Harms and Myers, a credit and collection law firm celebrating its 51st year in business (started in 1961). Based in Birmingham, Michigan my contact info includes: phone 248-645-2440, email: steve@mullerfirm.com and address 33233 Woodward Avenue, Birmingham MI.

I am also an adjunct professor of business law at Walsh College, Troy, Michigan where I teach business law in the classroom and online.

I'm on the lecture circuit, covering credit and collections, and I've authored hundreds of articles on the subject as well as being a chapter author, co-author or sole author of books including:

-Handling the Collection Case in Michigan, a Creditor's Guide (700 pages, published by ICLE, Ann Arbor, Michigan 2012, updated monthly);

-A Credit Manager's Guide to Collection Law in Michigan (270 pages, published by ICLE, Ann Arbor, Michigan 2006);

-Michigan Basic Practice Handbook (3 volumes, updated annually, published by ICLE, Ann Arbor, Michigan);

-Michigan Basic Practice Handbook (2 volumes, updated annually, published by ICLE, Ann Arbor, Michigan) and others.

-International Secured Transactions published by Thomson Publishing Company with co-author David Franklin September 2010. Click on: http://www.carswell.com/description.asp?DocID=6638&pgid=description

I enjoy traveling around the country, giving lectures on various credit and collection topics, primarily for organizations such as the American Collectors Association, International Association of Commercial Collectors, and the Commercial Law League of America as well as for the many collection agencies and clients his firm represents. After all, the check is not always "in the mail"!

(Steve is also an award winner and has been listed in Who's Who in American Law since 1985, has been a Michigan Super Lawyer 2007-2011, is AV Preeminent Lawyer by Martindale Hubbel, and has been named online instructor of the year by the Alliance for Excellence in Online Education.)
