Alice Shapiro

Alice Shapiro is a native New Yorker who moved to Georgia in 2005 and now serves as Douglasville's Poet Laureate. Her first collection of poetry "Cracked" (2009) was nominated for Georgia Author of the Year and she was also nominated for a Pushcart Prize 2010 and 2012. A second poetry book, "Life Descending/Ascending" was published in 2010 and a third book, "Saltian", in 2011. Shapiro won the Bill C. Davis Drama Award for a one-act verse tragedy which was produced in New York and at the Turner Cassity Literary Festival (2011). She has produced several projects including "The Change Interviews" an audio collection featuring Pushcart poetry nominees and winners, a poetry competition for television and a full-length musical "uPSTAIRs".
