Rebecca E. Hirsch

Rebecca E. Hirsch writes books that invite young readers to discover science and nature. Her picture books include PLANTS CAN'T SIT STILL (NCTE Notable), RISE TO THE SKY (Science Friday Best Science Books for Kids), and the brand new guessing book, WONDER WINGS: GUESS WHO'S FLYING. Her high-interest nonfiction for older readers includes A DEATHLY COMPENDIUM OF POISONOUS PLANTS (YALSA Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers Top Ten) and WHERE HAVE ALL THE BIRDS GONE? (Kirkus Best Teen Books).

Rebecca holds a doctorate in the life sciences and formerly worked as a scientist. When she's not researching her next book, she visits classrooms and works with students as an author in the schools.

Rebecca writes from her home in central Pennsylvania, where she grows gardens, bakes bread, tends chickens, and goes for long walks in the woods with her dog.
