Sam Post

Sam Post is a playwright, journalist, filmmaker, and the owner of PhenomWell Hemp Dispensary in Salisbury, North Carolina.

His plays have been published by Brooklyn Play Publishers, Palmetto Play Service, and The North Carolina Literary Review, and produced in classrooms and theaters across the United States and abroad. He has received two Regional Artist Grants from the North Carolina Arts Council — for playwriting in 1996 and filmmaking in 2006 — and wrote and directed Coffee Therapy, an independent feature film based on his stage play, which screened at several festivals and is available on YouTube.

He taught in North Carolina public schools for twenty-five years and published a community newspaper for fourteen. In 2019 he opened PhenomWell Hemp Dispensary in Salisbury, where he and his wife Alicia have built one of the region's most respected independent cannabis retailers.

People & the Plant: Medicine, Prohibition, and the Long Road Back is his first work of literary journalism — a narrative history of cannabis told through the scientists, activists, artists, and growers who shaped it. His other books include An Actor's Dozen, Confessions of a Tabloid Writer, Chillax, and Dusk and Other Poems.

He has been writing and blogging at sampost.com since 1999. He lives in Salisbury with his wife Alicia.
