Author/Educator Danny K. Blevins is a President Emeritus of the Van Lear, KY Historical Society. He is a past recipient of the Kentucky Historical Society's Award of Distinction and a Local History Award from the American Association for State and Local History. Danny is currently serving as the president of the Wells Family Association, a group dedicated to the preservation of the family history and genealogy of the Richard and Susanah Hutchison Wells family. This particular Wells family includes Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Johnny Depp and a great number of talented educators, authors, and musicians.
Danny Blevins has a varied educational background including a technical diploma in Electronic Communications from Mayo State Vocational-Technical School, both an AA and a AS from Prestonsburg Community College, a Bachelor's Degree from Morehead State University with an Area of Concentration in Social Science / Secondary Education, Middle School Endorsements in Science and Social Studies and a Kentucky Fifth Year from Morehead State University and a Master's Degree in Education and Rank I from Union College. He also is an Alumni of the NASA "NEW" program, having taken training at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, Virginia and he served for several years as a JPL Solar System Ambassador. Danny also has a lifetime radio operator license w/ RADAR endorsement and he is an active Amateur Radio Operator (KK4JEJ).
Danny K. Blevins has worked extensively as a science/history educator. He taught as a full-time teacher in the Johnson County Public Schools for 27 years. During that time he also worked extensively with Morehead State University's Space Science Center, the East Kentucky Science Center and doing independent contract work in science and astronomy. Currently, he works as a substitute teacher in Johnson County and does a great deal of community service with various non-profit groups.
In addition to being the author of Images of America, Van Lear, Blevins founded, The Bankmule, the official newsletter of the Van Lear Historical Society, Inc. He also served as the teacher sponsor and editor of the student-produced newspaper, "The Alternative Voice" at the Johnson County Alternative School. Danny has been a contributing author on several local plays known as, "The Story Patch" that have been written, produced and performed in Johnson County, Kentucky.
Danny resides at Sorghum Hollow in Van Lear, Kentucky. He lost his wife of thirty years to the ravages of breast cancer in 2018. He and his wife, Ida "Trudy" were the parents of three children: Tracy Danielle, Daniel Trevor, and Danni Morgan. Trevor Blevins is currently a sportswriter for Def Pen Sports.
