Something happened early in my life that made me question the norms in the American culture. I wanted to know wider options.
I met my husband Wayne Stier during our college years and we shared the same curiosity. Our first flight straight from Minneapolis to Tokyo was a great leap. That was 1976. Almost nothing was translated yet for foreign visitors to Japan. It was a fabulous way to launch ourselves into finding out who we were in this strange world. ASAP we traveled around Asia. I could feel the cultures soak into the pores of my skin. History came alive and was communicated to via every source imaginable, and condensed via the elders with whom we shared sustained contact over the years. All this is shared in several books, plays written, performed, filmed and a great many not yet published.
What a ride, having a person to collaborate with for 42 years. Wayne left the physical realm in the spring of 2009.
At this time I'm helping people understand the message of Wayne's new book,
Stars When the Sun Shines published by Weiser Books. If a luxurious publication were to be born from it there would naturally have to be pages of sculpture and art. My web site shares many of these: www.starrbirth.com
For 3 years I have been the publisher of Big Island Arts Annual a book for artists of Hawaii. A virtual copy is on-line. Go to Find Art page on the web site: www.bigislandartsannual.com
