Richard McMillan

Richard McMillan is an architect who lives (and sometimes works) in New York City.

"101 Cool Buildings" grew out of an interest in recent construction in the city, much of which is noteworthy as well as passionately discussed (even by non-architects!). On finding that documentation of this work was scattershot and of uneven quality, he set out on a quest (by subway, bus, ferry, foot and bicycle) to seek out the best of the best.

The featured work represents a geographic diversity. It is hoped that visitors will be lured from the bright light of Manhattan to seek out the brownstones of Brooklyn, the diversity of Queens and the dynamism of The Bronx.

Particular pleasure was taken in discovering the work of talented local architects who labor in relative obscurity. When contacted about their work, these hardworking professionals bubbled with an infectious enthusiasm.

All in all, a fun and exciting project. Already planning the next one.
