John Mark Edmondson has been a keen walker and enthusiast of Ordnance Survey maps since participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme as a teenager. In his twenties he started to enjoy rambling, especially on the Lake District Fells and in the Yorkshire Dales. Now retired and living in Cumbria near Kendal, John typically walks for three days a week. He is an active member and regular walk leader with South Lakes Walking Club, Kendal Ramblers and a volunteer walk leader with the Lake District National Park Authority. John has written nearly 300 walks for The Westmorland Gazette newspaper.
