Bob Denton

Bob Denton has been a pioneer for a number of technologies. His early career was in the marketing, launch, sales, distribution and retailing of technologies – electronic cash registers, anti-shoplifting systems, industrial non-destructive testing, personal computers… So, he knows of the issues of promotion and exploitation of a new technology, and, latterly in his career, launched and managed international trade and consumer events.

Bob was born in Bristol, UK, he is married, with two children and five grandchildren. Today, he is retired and living in rural Oxfordshire.

Bob has been writing for twenty years. His writing includes:

* Bob’s first novels comprised the ‘Tom Carter Series’.

• First was 'Still Water'. A Russian crime gang discovers some strange form of water in the Arctic, that kills!

• Bob’s second novel in the series was 'Gene Genie'. An American evangelical sect uses genetic engineering to fulfil its prophesies, early and irrevocably!

* 'Route of Evil' is Bob’s third thriller. The protagonists are linked by the passage of a US hundred dollar bill as it circumnavigates the world. On its journey, the banknote inspires a catalogue of global crime.

* Bob then spent several years on a non-fiction project, his ‘Computing History series’:

• 'The PC Pioneers', a history of the PC and the Net, but celebrating the people that made these happen, rather than the products themselves.

• '100 PC Moments' a 'Lite' version of The PC Pioneers was then released; a look at the top 100 moments and top 400 pioneers that brought us the PC and the Net.

* a further non-fiction book '1492 and all that!' followed his five years living in Spain – providing a history of Spain specifically for ex-pats and visitors to Spain.

* Bob next wrote his ‘AI concepts explored’ series:

• ‘Artifice’: Bob’s fourth thriller, where AI is exploited by terrorism. A contemporary AI thriller with two antagonists and no single hero — instead, an unlikely group must band together to stop both men before their ambitions ignite global chaos.

• ‘AI-Quint’: Bob’s fifth thriller, follows a workaround AI project that bears fruit, but it is threatened by concern about a forthcoming IPO. Josh creates a new identity and company to launch his new idea away from his co-founded company, Perspect.

* Bob produced his first short story compilation ‘Short, Sharp, Shock!’, flashes of imagination, moments of tension, twists of reality. The compilation ranges from short stories and novelettes to micro fiction and pico fiction, each crafted to stretch reality and play with your perspective.

* Most recently Bob produced a work of Fact Fiction, ‘Displaced and Denounced’ which reimagines two of Charles Dickens novels in modern settings and language; Oliver Twist and The Tale of Two Cities. Updated, not to make them ‘woke’, but to show how Dickens’ storytelling, characterisation, and social insight still resonate today.

* In a return to non-fiction, Bob wrote the ‘Living History series’, Four centuries. Four stories. One journey! History isn’t just dates and battles, it’s the places we live in and the stories that we inherit.

A four volume journey through four centuries, each explored through personal connection, lived experience, and the landscapes that shaped the author’s life. Rather than retelling familiar textbook narratives, the series approaches history from the ground up — through counties walked, cities lived in, careers pursued, and even referencing the year of the author’s own birth.
