Those first years at college, you couldn't have paid me to take an English class. But as the university constantly reminded me, I couldn't graduate without one. At last, I relented and enrolled in creative writing. I later discovered the course didn't count toward my requirement. But it was too late--I had caught the bug. I changed my major from political science to English and ultimately ended up with a MA in Literature. Five years after that, I sat down and began my first novel.
Like Cassie in The Buenos Aires Broken Hearts Club, I spent several transformative months in Buenos Aires. This was back in 2003, and I'm sure a lot has changed about the city, but I can tell you that it had me terrified, charmed, captivated and desperately sad to leave. You should go. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy my book.
