Jonathan is a business transformation specialist with over 35 years' experience. He has helped many leading institutions in a variety of roles including Consultant, Strategist, Business Architect and Programme Manager, and supplemented these with coaching, training and mentoring.
Jonathan’s career has been, and continues to be, driven by the value that technology can bring to organisations and individuals. He strives for clarity and simplicity so that the understanding and use of technology is not just for the few but for the many. Many of his investigations and papers have led to significant (multi-million pound) programmes of work within those institutions. His common-sense approach to addressing complex business problems and shaping practical, sustainable solutions has been fundamental to the success of many transformation programmes.
As well as having considerable practical experience, Jonathan is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the British Computer Society, and he holds numerous industry certifications.
Driven by his desire to share knowledge, and to demystify and exploit the use of technology, Jonathan has authored seven books in his spare time. His first publication (in 1997), The Year 2000 Computer Problem, addressed the so-called Millennium Bug and was aimed at helping small and medium-sized businesses to address the problem. The book received wide acclaim and was endorsed by the Department of Trade and Industry; almost a quarter of a million copies of the book were printed. Jonathan’s next publication, email@work was one of six publications that launched the ft.com imprint and was Guardian newspaper’s Business ‘Book of the week’. Four further publications followed over the years and in February 2020 his seventh book was published – Visualising Business Transformation - Pictures, diagrams and the pursuit of shared meaning – co-written with Stephen Whitla, focused on helping organisations and individuals to get better at managing change in an ever-changing world. In addition to his books, Jonathan has also written numerous articles for national and local newspapers, professional, trade and retail publications, in the UK and internationally.
