Keya Chaudhuri

Keya Chaudhuri has been born on 1952 in Kolkata, India. After completing her high school studies from Kolkata she studied Physics as major in BSc and did her MSc (Physics) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. She then joined CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (CSIR-IICB) as research fellow and obtained her Doctoral degree (PhD) from Jadavpur University in 1983. She started working at CSIR-IICB in 1979 as Scientific Assistant and superannuated as Chief Scientist & Head, Molecular & Human Genetics Division & Head, Academic Affairs Division in 2014. At present she is as Emeritus Scientist at CSIR-IICB and Professor Emeritus of AcSIR, India. Her research interest includes (i) molecular pathogenesis of Vibrio cholerae, (ii) diagnosis and management of oral precancer and cancer, (iii) arsenic toxicity & herbal remediation, (iv) nanoparticle synthesis, (v) biological activity of nanoparticles and pharmacophores. She has around 150 original research publications to her credit. She has guided 25 PhD students, 20 Master of Dental Surgery students, and more than 200 students for short term for MSc/MSPharm/MTech dissertations. She has authored seven books, two reference books “Cholera Toxins” and “Outer Membrane Vescicles of Bacteria” alongwith SN Chatterjee published by Springer, Berlin, Germany; two books “Recombinant DNA Technology” and “Microbial Genetics” under sole authorship for post-graduate students published by The Energy Research Institute (TERI), India and three books “Arsenic Toxicity and its Remediation”, “Epidemiological survey of oral submucous fibrosis in West Bengal” and “Molecular mechanisms of host Vibrio cholerae interaction” published by LAP-Lambert, Germany. She is the recipient of several awards such as National Science Talent Search scholarship (1969) from NCERT, Govt. of India, University gold medals (1972 and 1974) from Jadavpur University, Sir Jagadis Chandra Bose150th Birth Centenary Award” from the Science Association of Bengal, (2009), “SAB-Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Society for Applied Biotechnology, Karnataka (2011), Rastriya Gaurav” award by the India international Friendship Society (2011). She has been elected Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) , National Academy of Sciences (India), Allahabad and West Bengal Academy of Science & Technology.
