I was born a few streets away from the sea in Saltburn, Yorkshire, and later moved to Devon. After a brief stint in London, I went to Leeds University, and from Leeds I came up to the Highlands in a camper van, and have been here ever since, again, just a few streets away from the sea.

My vocation has always been books, working in one library and then another. Today I'm retired from Tain Library after working there for 25 years.

The rest of my time is spent writing, and squeezing in various other literary-related activities: I was Chair of the Board of Moniack Mhor Writing Centre for two years, and on the founding Committee of the Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival, as well as being judge Chair for the Annual Highlands and Islands Short Story Association.

So, lots going on, and two dogs to exercise on top of that - good job I live a couple of minutes from the fantastic Shandwick Bay in Easter Ross!
