Stephen Sposato spent twenty plus years as an international development economist working in Africa and Eastern Europe. His first book Radio: A Post Nine-Eleven Strategy for Reaching The World's Poor, published by University Press of America discusses the compelling work done via radio in educating masses of poor people in the third world, for whom other forms of media remain still distant and costly dreams. This book, now available on Amazon, co-authored with Wm. A. Smith, Executive Vice-President at AED and one of development radios most well known practitioners, uses examples from some of the most moving and educational radio programs in development radios' vast repertoire. It was discussed for over an hour by panelists on NPR.
Stephen's writing career actually began earlier when, as an American graduate student in Belgium, he wrote the original novella, Conversations With Marcel. The sequel to the novella, included in the book by the same name, was written recently, now that Stephen is retired and has the time to contemplate the original characters' fate. This sequel also includes the original novella in its pages, as the son sits down to read his father's now famous novella, and struggles to make sense of his disappearance. Conversations is available on Amazon in both print and e-formats,
A Tough Road to Hoe: 10,000 Years On an Unbeaten Track, is a brief history of humanity and its hypothetical future, viewed from the stand-point of the common man. Stephen was inspired to write A Tough Road To Hoe after a recent trip to the South of France, when he realized that the region has fought one war after another for over 2,000 years, and has still managed to create a beautiful and rich social tapestry. The historical parts of the novel are given history -- the internet and my love of learning and scholarship, made researching this brief history of mankind possible -- the future, well it's the future.
A 'Destination Funeral'--Does 5,000 Miles and 10 Feet Under 'Get You Away From It All?' -- though, at times, tongue- in-cheek, is a serious history of our times told through the lens of my life. Other books are in the wings, so stay tuned.
