William Ruleman

William Ruleman has published several collections of poetry, including A Palpable Presence (2001) and Sacred & Profane Loves (2002) (both from Feather Books) and From Rage to Hope (2017) from Kelsay Books.

His interest in translation began with his reading of Rilke, several of whose Neue Gedichte he rendered into English for WillHall Books in 2003. A visit to Salzburg in 2006 stimulated his fascination with the Austrian writer Stefan Zweig, which led to his translating that author's fiction in two volumes, Vienna Spring: Early Stories & Novellas (2010) and Clarissa: the fragment of a novel (2017), for Ariadne Press.

Recognizing the need for more foreign-language (especially German) authors to be represented in English, Dr. Ruleman established Cedar Springs Books in 2014. So far, that imprint has featured works not only by Zweig but also Hermann Hesse, Maria Luise Weissmann, and various German Romantics such as Joseph von Eichendorff, with more soon to follow in what has come to be known as the Neglected Voices series.

Ruleman's travels to Munich, the Austrian Salzkammergut, and the Black Forest have moreover inspired his three most recent collections of poetry, all from Cedar Springs Books.
