Alison Baxter

I've always been fascinated by history, but I only started to write about it in later life. In my twenties, I travelled the world as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language before returning to the UK to work in educational publishing. I then ran a charity in my home city of Oxford, but after I retired, I changed direction once more to become a writer at last. In 2020 I published my first book, 'A Cornish Cargo', about my seafaring ancestors, and was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. Since then I've published another non-fiction title, 'Another Song at Sunset', and 2026 sees the publication of my first historical novel, 'A Fatal Choice', which is based on a true story I found in the newspaper archive. I am passionate about the importance of ordinary people’s lives to our understanding of history, and I love to hear from readers who have their own intriguing family stories to share.
