Chris Rowe

Chris Rowe was born at Rainhill, near Liverpool during the war and graduated from Liverpool University in 1962. By then, his main interests were history, especially the Age of Discovery, music and cricket. Postgraduate studies took him to London, Vienna and Providence RI. From 1967 to 1972 he was Lecturer in History at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, where he met and married Tessa, a girl from Brighton. After returning to England he worked for thirty years at Winstanley College (originally Upholland GS) near Wigan until retirement in 2002. From 1981, he has also been principal examiner in A level history for AEB and AQA and the author of several textbooks for A level students. Since retiring from classroom teaching he has travelled widely around Europe as history consultant for the Council of Europe and for Euroclio. Currently, he is working as one of the editors of a new online Europe-wide history project, Historiana. (Visit Historiana.eu)
