Ian Vince

I write narrative non-fiction, travel and humour books and contribute to magazines and newspapers. As a BBC Countryfile magazine columnist, I write a monthly feature on Reading the Landscape, but my work has also appeared in The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, Radio Times, Countryside Voice and many others.

I co-presented a Radio 4 documentary Three Men in a Float - an account, like the book of the same name, of a journey across Britain in an electric milk float with Dan Kieran and Prasanth Visweswaran. The journey took three weeks on account of the float's maximum range - around 35 miles - and it's maximum speed - approximately 15 mph, or slightly less than the velocity of a speeding bee (we know this, because one overtook us in Cornwall). We planned very little of it in advance and just headed off with a touching faith in human kindness; we had to temporarily re-wire around 20 cooker mains, a few campsites and a couple of factories - all from people we had never met before - to get the required amperage to re-charge our batteries.
