Debbie Tomkies

Debbie Tomkies is a textile designer, hand-dyer, author and tutor with over 30 years’ experience. An expert hand-dyer, she works with natural and synthetic dyes on both yarn and fabric and has a particular interest in researching dyes in the 1800-1900s.

Debbie has written 5 books which have been published internationally and is working on her sixth. She has been the hand-knitting expert for Knit Now magazine for over 10 years, and also wrote and designed for Simply Knitting magazine for many years before that.

Debbie teaches classes in hand-knitting, crochet, and hand-dyeing from her studio in Altrincham, UK. She also regularly runs workshops online, and for Guilds and groups around the UK.
