Bob Moody has been painting in transparent watercolor for over 40 years, first commercially as a graphic designer for R.G. LeTourneau in Dallas, Texas, and later as an artist for NASA in Huntsville, Alabama. He retired in 2004 after owning an architectural design business in Alabama specializing in historic restoration for over 30 years.
Many of his design projects have been published and he was awarded a prestigious "Southeast Designer of the Year 1998" for a corporate project by the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center. His design work has been featured in Contract Magazine and his watercolors featured in Southern Accents Magazine. He's received numerous design awards including a Silver Medal/Auburn University, annual historic preservation awards 1986-1999 from the Birmingham Historical Society, and an IIDA 1999 Merit Award.
His first book was Gifts of Grace, Alabama Churches in Watercolor. He was asked to personally present the first copy of his second book, The Church Triumphant, to Queen Elizabeth and The Archbishop of Canterbury, at the 50th celebration of the Historic Churches Preservation Trust at St. Bartholomew's Church followed by a reception in 2003 at The Haberdashers Livery Hall.
The Birmingham Historical Society published a 3rd book of his watercolors entitled, Bob Moody's Birmingham, A City in Watercolor, in December of 2014. Selected watercolors (dating from the 1960s-2014) capture the beauty of Birmingham landmark places, including its industrial sites, city center, its commercial districts and neighborhoods.
