Barbara Boughton is an award-winning freelance writer and editor whose health and medical articles have appeared in publications such as the Lancet Oncology, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Consumer Reports and Better Homes and Gardens. She writes regularly for the health clinician Web site Medscape.com. A specialist in writing about oncology, she also writes about other medical topics such as ophthalmology, orthopedics, women's health and alternative medicine.
She is a former contributing editor for In Touch, a magazine for cancer patients, and has written for MAMM, Cure Magazine and Women & Cancer, all magazines for cancer survivors. She has won more than a dozen journalism awards, including two awards from the Texas American Cancer Society.
A former reporter and columnist for the Houston Post in Texas, she is the recipient of the Barbara Jordan Communications Award for writing about people with disabilities. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 1979, and grew up in Old Bethpage, a town on Long Island, New York. She lives in Northern California.
