She began her career writing short stories and award-winning novels for young adults, before becoming a a highly-respected advice columnist and television personality, with her own radio shows in the UK. She has written two narrative nonfiction books for adults. Her secret passion is football, and she has written a book about two women factory workers from her own home town in the North of England, who became wold-wide stars of the newly Uk-created female soccer world in 1920, before this innovative and popular sport was effectively banned bi the Football Association of the UK.
