David Turner is one of life's enthusiasts, a professional medical practitioner but an 'amateur' in the original sense of the word in so many other areas. He falls in love with a hobby and devotes all his energies to learning about it. Clearly he needs little sleep. Once he has become involved in an interest, he delves into it about as deep as a man can go and becomes very passionate about it. This was so when in the 1980s he decided to breed pedigree Southdown sheep, was obliged to learn all about lambing and sheep care but also about how to promote the breed and sell the lambs.
That was how 'The Showman Shepherd' came about. David wanted a guide book when he came to prepare his sheep for agricultural shows but found nobody had written one. Once he had gleaned all the information to be able to succeed, he generously shared all his knowledge with the world. The book is now out of print
'A Passion for Tango' came about in a similar way. David became so involved in the culture of Argentine Tango that he and his wife ended up teaching it for many years. What they found was that there were numerous misconceptions about Tango and, in particular, it was very poorly taught in some areas. Many of those who felt attracted to the dance and who would have loved to learn it were put off by some of the classes they attended. The book is arguably the most successful book on the subject and incorporates the history, a chapter about the music and a clear explanation of most of the common features of the dance. There is a lot of help for beginners about the embrace and connection with the partne; those things newcomers to Tango find most difficult to grasp. The book is available in paperback and on Kindle
'The Ten Big Mistakes' was launched on Kindle as an additional small commentary on the problems some people face when they try to learn Tango.
David is married to a Psychotherapist, lives in the very centre of England and has four adult children.
