Barbara Karant

Barbara Karant is an award-winning architectural and interiors photographer, author, artist, and educator. Nationally recognized for her distinctive photographic vision, her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally and is represented in numerous private and museum collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Saint Louis Art Museum, the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University, the Sheldon Museum of Art, and the Chrysler Museum of Art.

Her latest book, 820 Ebony/Jet: Visions of the Johnson Publishing Company, an American Icon, explores the architectural legacy and cultural significance of the iconic publishing company through original photography, essays, employee recollections, and rare vintage illustrations. She is also the photographer for Within the Fairy Castle and the author of Greyhounds and Small Dog Big Dog. Karant lives and works in Chicago, where she also volunteers with Greyhounds Only, a 501(c)3 dedicated to the placement of retired racing greyhounds.
