Monte Ross is a Fellow of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers(IEEE) and a Fellow of McDonnell Douglas(now Boeing) for leadership in the development of Space laser communications. He has written many papers and articles going back to 1965 on the potential of lasers for SETI communications.
He served as Director of Space Laser Systems at McDonnell Douglas for a number of years.He was the recepient of several important patents including laser diode pumped crystal lasers which are used today in a variety of applications from laser pointers to surgery . He was the Technical Editor of the Laser Applications series, vol. 1 thru 4.published by Academic Press.He is a graduste in Electronics from the University of Illinois with a BSEE degree and he has a Masters Degree in electronics from Northwestern University.His first book, Laser Receivers , published in 1966 , was the first book dealing with
how to detect laser signals and was widely used in design of laser systems.
