Rick Snoman

Rick Snoman is a producer, mastering engineer, educator, and author specialising in electronic music production and sound design. Based in Manchester, UK, he has spent more than three decades working across commercial and private recording studios, producing, mixing, mastering, and developing artists throughout the international dance music industry.

An Apple-certified mastering engineer and owner of Altar Recording Studios, Rick has worked with artists including David Guetta, The Chainsmokers, Nicky Holloway, Steve Aoki, and Lisa Stansfield. His mastering and production work spans major and independent labels including Sony, Warner, Polydor, Armada, Spinnin’ Records, Anjuna, Hospital Records, Toolroom, Mau5trap, and Future Sound of Egypt.

Rick is the author of Dance Music Manual, first published by Focal Press in 2004. Now in its fifth edition and translated into multiple languages, it has become one of the most widely used educational texts on electronic music production, sound design, and contemporary studio practice. The book is used by producers, educators, and students worldwide and has been adopted by universities, colleges, and training institutions across the globe.

Alongside his studio work, Rick has played an active role in music education and professional development. He serves as Co-Chair of Electronic Dance Music for the Audio Engineering Society and is a member of the AES Education Committee. He has presented internationally at AES conventions, delivered masterclasses and guest lectures at universities and colleges, curated the Society’s first dedicated EDM event, and was keynote speaker on electronic dance music at NAMM.

His work explores the intersection of technology, creativity, and musical culture, drawing on decades of experience at the forefront of electronic music production.
