Stephen Miller

I'm a six-time Paralympic medal winner, inspirational speaker and writer.

I'm an athlete who throws backwards, but who is always thinking forward. Born with cerebral palsy, I have represented Great Britain in seated throw events (particularly the F32 Club Throw) for over 25 years.

I was first introduced to the Club Throw at ten years old at a weekly school sports club, and by the age of just 16, won gold at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics. In total, I've competed in six Paralympic Games, seven World Championships and seven European Championships – so far winning 34 international medals. I won three Paralympic titles in a row and held the F32 Club Throw world record from 1997-2008. I'm still competing.

Awarded an MBE in New Year’s honours list in 2016, I've given a lot back to the community through my inspirational talks. An avid visitor to schools, athletics clubs and businesses in my home area of the North East of England, I'm passionate about inspiring people to take up sport and get active. In 2013, I founded SMILE Through Sport, a charitable organisation that combines the services of disability sport development with training and education programmes.

Away from the sport, I hold a degree in Business Information Systems and worked as a database and web developer for 14 years.
