Christopher Gardner

Dr. Christopher Gardner is well known for his expertise in addressing and finding consensus in food and nutrition controversy. He has worked for over thirty years as director of nutrition studies and professor of medicine at Stanford University. He has conducted more than twenty-five randomized clinical trials. He chaired the American Heart Association Nutrition Committee from 2022-24 and served on the US Dietary Guidelines Advisory committee from 2023-24.

Christopher loves food as much as he loves science, and doesn’t take either – or himself – too seriously. His light-hearted approach to the world of science helps him connect deeply with readers and listeners. His extensive list of videos have been viewed millions of times.

Dr. Gardner received a PhD in Nutrition at UC Berkeley and a BS in Philosophy at Colgate University. When he’s not in the kitchen, classroom, or lab, Dr. Gardner runs, bikes, plays lacrosse and volleyball, and skis, often with one or more of his four sons, ages 18-35 (no daughters; no X-chromosomes apparently). He regularly gets beaten in Scrabble by his marathon-running wife, Dean of Menlo College, author, and mother. They met rock climbing.
