Mike Nicol

Mike Nicol is an author, creative writing teacher, journalist and editor. In recent years he has published several crime novels starting with the Revenge Trilogy: Payback, Killer Country and Black Heart and the follow-up Power Play. His second series featuring PI Fish Pescado and lawyer-cum-spy Vicki Kahn comprised Of Cops & Robbers, Agents of the State, Sleeper, The Rabbit Hole and Hammerman – A Walking Shadow. He is working on a new series featuring the cop, Captain Zara Dewane. The first book – Falls the Shadow – will be published in February 2026 by Catalyst Press in the US; Pan Macmillan South Africa, and btb Verlag in Germany. Mike is the tutor on his nine-month Masterclass which has been running successfully for thirteen years. He has worked as a freelance writer since 1989, contributing to magazines, newspapers and publications in South Africa and internationally. His published works include poetry, several novels and non-fiction works, including a history of Drum magazine, two memoirs, and three biographies, two of which were about Nelson Mandela.
