O.B. Wright

About the Author

A man with a dubious past himself, Mr. Wright finally anchored in the Kingdom of Thailand in 1988. At the time, he was working as an observer and technician for an American oil exploration company in the country of Syria. He haunted the hotels, clubs and bars of Sukhumvit Road at first.

Mr. Wright's decision to make a home in Thailand was a result of making amends with a portion of his past. In June of 1989, he leased his first home within a gated, upper-class Thai community in Bangkapi, a suburb of Bangkok, after securing (dubiously, of course) a brevet commission as a colonel in the Thai military. Here, he began in earnest to learn the language and customs of the people which culminated in his entry into a Buddhist monastery in early 1993. Eventually, he purchased a family farm on the Thai-Cambodian border where he married and had a son. It was while living within this Isan community, and trading gems from Cambodia, that he learned many of the rural customs; and had his first brush with the Khmer Rouge. His books are painted from the rich palette acquired only from experience.

In 1996, Mr. Wright received near fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident (dubious in nature, of course) while on the Cambodian border. After years of living as an expatriate, he finally returned on a Halloween night to the United States. Presently living in the High Desert of California, his eyes are constantly cast to the west where his son and the kingdom are: whilst whistling the tune of Colonel Bogie.
