Gregory Urbach

I've always enjoyed the old-time writers from science fiction's golden age. After beginning in speculative science fiction, I branched out into alternate history (of a sort) with Custer at the Alamo. Recent works include Dashiell Hammett and the Hearst Castle Mystery and Dashiell Hammett and the World's Fair Mystery. Additional works are the fantasy novel, Magistrate of the Dark Land, adventure stories such as Rachel the Warrior and Diminished Capacity, and a new anthology, Dinosaur Blitz: Tales of Science Fiction, Mystery, and Romance.

My earliest writing was for a campus newspaper, then movie reviews for a film distributor, and later a syndicated craft column. My interest in fiction is influenced by adventure stories. Tarzan of the Apes. Clan of the Cave Bear. Sherlock Holmes. Horatio Hornblower by C.S. Forester. The Master of Rome series by Colleen McCullough. The Plantagenet series by Thomas Costain (I was studying the Wars of the Roses long before Games of Thrones came along). I write stories with action, but the stories also have something to say. About people. About history. About the future.
