Andy Chapman

Andy Chapman retired in 2018 from paid employment with MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) Northampton. However, he is still working on several backlog publications, and is editor of the county archaeological journal, Northamptonshire Archaeology, for Northamptonshire Archaeological Society.

He was a field archaeologist from leaving university in the early 1970s, working his way up from digger, to site supervisor and eventually fieldwork director and project manager.

Most recently he was a Senior Project Manager with MOLA Northampton and previously Senior Archaeologist with Northamptonshire Archaeology, commercial archaeological contractors carrying out fieldwork in advance of development work, where from 2004 until retirement he was responsible for all aspects of reporting and publication.

He has brought together the results of major excavations carried out in the small Northamptonshire town of Raunds in the 1970s and 80s, which have provided important evidence relating to village origins in the late Saxon period.

Much of his work has been published as articles in county journals, mainly Northamptonshire Archaeology and Records of Buckinghamshire. He is also a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (FSA).
