Barbara K. Hofer

Barbara K. Hofer is a Professor of Psychology Emerita at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, where she has taught courses in developmental, educational, and cultural psychology and conducted research at the intersection of these areas. She is a fellow of the American Psychological Association.

Hofer received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, an Ed.M from Harvard, and a B.A from the University of South Florida. She is the recipient of the Review of Research Award from the American Educational Research Association (with Paul Pintrich) and the McKeachie Early Career Teaching Award from the American Psychological Association, She has published several dozen articles and book chapters, and was a Faculty Fellow at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, in 2002 and 2008, and at DIS Copenhagen in 2013 and 2018. Her current work is on the psychology of science denial, doubt, and resistance.
