Liz Caskey

Liz is an American business owner; food, wine, and travel writer; chef and sommelier; who has made her home in Santiago, Chile since 2001 having fallen in love with Chile while studying abroad in college. Liz is the founder and co-owner of Liz Caskey Culinary and Wine Experiences in Santiago, specializing exclusively in food, wine, and cooking-focused tours in Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Liz worked as an investment banker in New York and Santiago prior to launching her first business in catering in Chile in late 2001. During the past seven years, the company has grown from a single product and one-woman operation to presently offer fifteen different itineraries. Liz currently operates the business with her husband and business partner, Chilean-born artist and photographer Francisco Ramirez, in addition to talented office staff and their passionate guides.

As an expert on Chile’s cuisine, ingredients and wine, Liz gained cooking experience through private catering, restaurant internships, and the investigation of Chile’s native foods and customs for their culinary tours. She cultivated her wine knowledge by attending the International Sommelier School in Santiago, and gained hands-on experience in the wineries and vineyards. Liz has worked as a food consultant for Santiago’s well known cocktail and tapas bar, Bar Yellow, creating an innovative small plate menu, designing the professional kitchen, training the kitchen staff, and laying out the wine pairing list. Accolades included the bar’s ranking as the Chilean capital’s premier cocktail bar and best gourmet papas fritas (French Fries), as voted by Qué Pasa magazine. Liz currently is an active member of Women Chefs and Restaurateurs and the International Association of Culinary Professionals.
