Gillian Cummings fell in love with children's literature while reading picture books to her young daughters. She wrote the first few chapters of her debut young adult novel, Somewhere in Blue, years ago as a writing assignment for a children's writing workshop. The manuscript for Somewhere in Blue was singled out by Governor General's Award-winner Tim Wynne-Jones for a Letter of Distinction at the Humber School for Writers in Toronto, Canada.
Gillian was born in Scotland but grew up in Toronto. Degrees in music and journalism led to a job as an arts reporter and music critic for the London Free Press. She also held editing positions at two Toronto magazines. While raising two daughters, she maintained a freelance career, writing for Canadian Living and Style at Home magazines, and doing research and production work for such television shows as Craftscapes and Divine Design.
Gillian lives in Toronto with her husband and teenage daughters. Visit her and the characters of Somewhere in Blue at www.gilliancummings.com.
