I am an historian of Imperial and Soviet Russia. I am interested in global and comparative history. The focus of my research and teaching is Modern Europe and Russia, but I also look beyond these areas, in order to incorporate Russia and Europe into a broader context. I am particularly interested in social, economic, and cultural history, and history of labor, gender relations, peasantries, and childhood. I teach history at Kennesaw State University (Atlanta, GA).
Currently I am working on a book project tentatively titled “Repressed Children: The Dark Side of Early Soviet Childhood, 1917-1941.” It investigates the problem of post-1917 children’s homelessness, starvation, and high mortality in early Soviet Russia. This book project is under publication contract.
