Billy Moore is a native of Florida but spent much of his youth on his grandparents’ farm near Opp, Alabama. He recently retired from teaching history at South Walton High School and Northwest Florida State College. He is a graduate of Chipola College, Mississippi State University, and Rice University, where he also studied novel writing and served as assistant football coach. His first novel was the widely praised regional bestseller, Cracker’s Mule, which describes a boy’s coming of age on an Alabama farm during the time of the great polio epidemic of the 1950’s. Little Brother Real Snake, a coming of age novel set on the Great Plains in the 17th century, was his second novel. He is currently editing “Cochise McQueen,” a comic novel about a Texas football coach, expected to hit the market in September 2012. He and his wife, Dee, live on a lake in Northwest Florida.
