James Fitzhenry

James Fitzhenry spent his entire career in law enforcement, beginning as a Squad Leader in a Military Police company with the U.S. Army in Korea. After the service, he returned to the United States and became a sheriff’s deputy, later working as a private investigator in major metropolitan cities. He eventually retired as a lieutenant of detectives with the federal government.

Where academics bring theory and abstract analysis, Fitzhenry brings the practical reality of someone who is not merely studying warriors, but actually was one – living, serving, and working alongside them. That firsthand experience gives him an understanding of duty, conflict, and human nature under strain that no scholar can ever fully grasp from books alone.

Decades of investigative work sharpened his reliance on rigorous logic and systematic problem-solving—tools that prove vital in his search for truth, whether in the field or deep within historical archives. He developed his love of history and the Catholic Faith the old-fashioned way: stubborn devotion, an insistence on real evidence, along with a lifelong habit of reading far too late into the night.

Having spent decades chasing subjects who often made spectacularly bad decisions, he now investigates historical figures whose lives offer guidance for our own turbulent times. Fitzhenry writes historical biographies and historical fiction, both rooted in a deep love of the Catholic Faith. His books aim to preserve the heroic past and encourage Catholics to hold fast to the faith of their fathers. He writes for readers who still believe valor matters, faith endures, and history is best told with a sword somewhere in the background.
