Maile Chapman is the author of Your Presence Is Requested at Suvanto, short-listed for The Guardian First Book Award and a finalist for the PEN Center USA literary award in fiction. Her second novel, The Spoil, will be published by Graywolf Press in 2026. She has a BA from the Evergreen State College, an MFA from Syracuse University, and a PhD in English from University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and has been a fellow at the New York Public Library’s Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers and a Fulbright/ASLA Grantee to Finland, researching hospital and institutional architecture. She was also a kindergarten teacher on the campus of DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron) in Hamburg, Germany, a renowned center for physics research. Her stories have appeared in A Public Space, Best American Fantasy, The Dublin Review, Boston Review, Granta, and elsewhere. She teaches creative writing and American literature at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
