Gareth Kane

It was standing by a road outside the town of Monchegorsk in arctic Russia in 1997 that Gareth had his Damascene conversion. The landscape for as far as the eye could see had been devastated by acid rain from the town's nickel smelter. From that moment on, Gareth's ambition was to make the world a greener place.

In the years since that day, Gareth has striven to clean up industry and commerce, working with hundreds of organisations from a crazy golf course owner up to some of the largest industries in the world like DuPont and BASF to cut their environmental footprint. He currently runs his own consultancy Terra Infirma which has attracted clients such as the BBC, BAE Systems plc, Johnson Matthey plc, the NHS, Black & Decker, Sage plc and InterfaceFLOR.

Gareth's first book, The Three Secrets of Green Business is a punchy, practical guide to greening a business, drawing on those twelve years of experience.

His second book, The Green Executive, reflects the recent shift of "green" from a management issue to a strategic boardroom priority.

In Green Jujitsu: The Smart Way to Embed Sustainability into Your Organisation, Gareth explains why most attempts to engage people in sustainability fail and how to do it properly.

Building a Sustainable Supply Chain pretty much does what it says on the tin.

Accelerating Sustainability using the 80:20 Rule demonstrates that we can make progress much faster if we are ruthless at how we apply our personal focus, resources and energy.

Gareth lives in Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK with his partner Karen and his three boys, Harry, Jimmy and Charlie. Gareth was rated a "rising star, future leader" in the Journal newspaper for his work on sustainability.
