Arvind Agarwal

Dr. Arvind Agarwal is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MME) at the Florida International University. He received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1999 and B. Tech. and M. Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur in 1993 and 1995, respectively. His current research interests include carbon nanotube reinforced composites and coatings, thermal spray, surface engineering, nanomechanics and nanotribology, biomaterials and nanomechanics of cells and tissues. He has published over 150 technical articles including more than 100 peer-reviewed journal papers, edited 3 books, reviewed publications for 40 international journals, edited and reviewed numerous books in the field of materials science. Dr. Agarwal has received research grants from the Federal agencies (National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, Army Research Office, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, NASA) and private industries. Dr. Agarwal has received prestigious NSF CAREER Award, FIU President’s Council Outstanding Professor Finalist for 2008 and 2009,the TMS Young Leader Award 2004, and ASM/IIM Visiting Lectureship Award 2004. Dr. Agarwal serves on the editorial board of six (6) journals. He is the Founding Faculty Advisor to ASM/TMS (now Materials Advantage) student chapter at FIU. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Agarwal worked as Materials Scientist in Plasma Processes Inc., Huntsville, Alabama.
