Phillip Gowins first met his teacher/guide, Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, if February of 1979. Up until that time he had been going from teacher to teacher, looking for just the right one. Meeting Pir Vilayat set him on the path that is still unfolding.
Mr. Gowins spent 30 years as first a carpenter and then a furniture maker. In 2001 he took a course in hypnosis and, along with his wife, now operates a hypnosis center in Scranton, PA. The juxtaposition of hypnosis and spiritual practices continues to fascinate him.
He has two children by a previous marriage and a step daughter with his present wife, Dawn.
In 1986 Pir Vilayat notified him and his wife that they were now representatives, authorized to give spiritual practices and initiations to other Sufi students. His experiences as a spiritual guide led to the creation of the book, Practical Sufism.
